Dorothy Jean McGonagle

Dorothy Jean McGonagle, age 86, was born on October 7, 1927 to Herbert and Clara Householder in New Lexington, Ohio. She passed away on January 30, 2014 in Crossville, TN. She worked as a secretary for Pure Oil Refinery in Newark, Ohio and then as a sales clerk for Griffen Bros. Furniture. Dorothy was a housewife and mother first and foremost. She enjoyed being in service to others and was active in church affairs. She was an officer in the Catholic Council of Women and a Minister of Care, taking holy communion to shut-ins. She volunteered for the Battered Women’s of Crossville, TN and assisted with monthly Bingo at Wyndridge Health and Rehabilitation Center for 25 years.

She is survived by her husband- George F. McGonagle of Fairfield Glade, TN; sons- Michael McGonagle and Carol of Logan Ohio, Kevin McGonagle and Linda of North Webster, IN; daughter- Patrice Koser of Fairfield Glade, TN; eight grandchildren- Kyle and Maribel McGonagle, Kelly McGonagle, Katie McGonagle, Shawn and Megan O’Brien, Brian McGonagle, Kristen and Rick Holstead, Kyle and Rachel Koser, and Kathleen and Steven Oakes; three great grandchildren- Isabella, Aiden, and Shane; brother- Donald Householder of Ohio; sisters- Margie Leitnaker and Lynn of Ohio, Mary Lou Householder and Lloyd of Florida, Helen Knipe and Kenneth of Florida; and brother-in-law- James McGonagle and Helen of Fairfield Glade, TN.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents- Herbert Lee Householder and Clara Emily Wendel Householder; and son- Chris McGonagle.

Memorial Service will be held on February 15, 2014 at 10:00 am at St. Francis of Assisi with Father John Dowling officiating.

  1. To George, Mike, Kevin and Patrice, my heart is heavy with your loss. Jean always put a smile on my face. If we measure the quality of an individual by the children they raise, I guess Jean McGonagle deserved a gold medal and George you may have had a little bit to do with it as well. She IS one in a million.

      I am sorry for your loss and regret I was unable to attend funeral and visit with you. The prior Atlanta storm fiasco and weather prediction caused concern for travel. Jean was a beloved cousin and I trust she is now at peace without suffering. Take care.
