Alvin Boyd Burgess

Obituary photoAlvin Boyd Burgess age 82 passed away at his home in Clovis New Mexico Feb. 8, 2014.  He was born May 17, 1931 to Dalton B Burgess and Jewell Vinson Burgess of Jackson Co TN.   Alvin served in the U.S. Air Force from 1951 until he retired in 1972 while at Holloman’s AFB in Alamogordo New Mexico.  After retiring he began working at the Cannon AFB from 1974 until he retired again in 1994.  He enjoyed NASCAR Racing, an avid fan of Jeff Gordon.  Growing up he and his brother played country music with bands such as Red Foley, Thumbs Carlile and Joe Memphis.   Alvin is survived by his wife Rosi, a son Kevin Burgess & Shari of McKinney TX, a daughter Karen Sullivan & Jimmy of Jacksonville FL, Janet Combs & Mousa of Los Angeles CA, David Combs & Courtney of Pensacola FL, a brother Rev. Eugene (Gene) Burgess & Teresa of Crossville TN and a sister Diane Draper & Junior of the Wartrace Community of Jackson Co.  Besides his parents, he was also preceded by a son Barry Burgess of FL.
The family request memorial contributions be made to the Disabled American Veterans
Tentative funeral arrangements are as follows:  Viewing 11 a.m. until the time of the funeral at 1 p.m. on Friday, Feb 14, 2014 at the Mt. Pleasant Church of God on Shephardsville Rd in Jackson Co TN.  Burial will follow at Curry’s Chapel Cemetery with Military Honors.

  1. My deepest sympathy to the family…I remember Alvin when I was a little girl living on the Shepherdville Rd…I wish I could have know him as an adult so we could have exchanged memories of growing up in Nameless and being related as 1st cousins.

    I am proud that he served our country for all those years and helped us stay safe in this wonderland land of the FREE….

    I am also sorry that I never got to know him as an adult so I could have personally thanked him for serving our country..
