Guy Phillips

Pop Head Shot 2Guy Larkin Phillips, known by everyone as “Pop,” a resident of Crossville, Tennessee, since 1972, passed away on June 14, 2014.  Pop was 79 years old and passed away at home surrounded by his loving family and friends.

Guy was born on August 15, 1934, in Phillipsville, Alabama, to John Arthur and Eula Stamps Phillips.  Guy was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church in Crossville where he ushered.  His civic memberships included the Yaarab Shrine in Atlanta, GA, where he served as Illustrious Potentate, and was a Past Master of Oostanaula Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons in Rome, GA. He was also a 32nd degree of Scottish Rite Mason.

Guy started his professional career with King’s Bakery (now McKee Foods in Collegdale, TN), then moved to Parrish Bakery in Rome, GA, where he was Sales Manager.  Guy moved to Crossville to be a partner in Mountain Farm Bakery which is now Flowers Foods.  His other business interests included Turner Brothers Stone, but most everyone knew Pop as a partner in Mountain Farm International.  He will be remembered in his cowboy boots and hat, smoking his cigar, rocking in the lobby of “the tractor place” and as the ultimate University of Alabama fan: “Roll Tide!”

Guy was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Lois Dailey Phillips; sons, Joseph McNamara and Joel Perry Phillips; and daughter, Susan Ayers.

Guy is survived by wife, Sharon Phillips; sons, Guy L. McNamara of Ramona, CA, Calvin Davis Phillips (Jacki) of McDonough, GA, and George Graham (Teresa) of Chattanooga, TN; daughter, Carole Ann Collamer of Los Angeles, CA; sisters, Judy Clevenger of Chattanooga, TN, and Gail Maclin of Fairfax, VA; brother, John A. Phillips, Jr., of Chattanooga, TN; 14 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Crossville Memorial Funeral Home, Crossville, TN.  Visitation will take place at Crossville Memorial on Tuesday, June 17, from 3:00-8:00PM.  The funeral service will take place at First United Methodist Church on Wednesday, June 18, at 2:00PM.  Burial will follow at Green Acres in Crossville.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the First United Methodist Church, 100 Braun St, Crossville, TN 38555, or to the Hospice of Cumberland County, 30 East Adams Street, Crossville, TN 38555.
