William Grant Cox

G & S - CopyWilliam Grant Cox passed away peacefully at home with his loving wife at his side on 9-27-2014. He was born in Crossville on 3-27-1934.  His parents were Link and Mildred (Hamby) Cox.  He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Sue, 3 daughters, Kelly Lee Shaw (Mark), Stacey Lynn (Dennis) Peterson, and Carlene Susanne LaGuardia, 6 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren, 2 brothers, Boyd (Elaine) of Crossville and  Glenn  (Judy) of GA and one sister Fern (James) Curtis of Charleston TN and 9 nieces and nephews.
After high school graduation Grant left Crossville to make his way in California.  He was in the Army, stationed in CA and when his tour was over he stayed. He had a career as a metallurgical engineer in the aerospace field. He married Sue in 1973 where they spent 7 ½ years living on a boat, a life he truly loved, so much that he was building a larger one to take its place.  In 1980 they left the California pace for a quieter life in TN.  Grant was blessed with many talents, including expert woodworking, the design and building of many different types of machinery, including a mobile vertical sawmill and a machine that cut 2 x 4’s into grade stakes.  The thrill for him was the challenge of design and construction, just to see if he could do it! His other talents included building their first house here in Crossville and the design and building of cabinets and furniture.
As a boy he was an avid hunter, trapper and fisherman.  His love of fishing and hunting continued into adulthood. He was always interested in motorcycles and 2009 he rode his Yamaha to Arizona and back at Thanksgiving time, a ride that brought him great joy.  Most recently he acquired a 2007 Mustang which really made him smile..
He was precede in death by his parents, brother Kenneth and an infant son, William Grant Cox
