Cody Wade Smith

Cody Wade Smith, age 33, was born on February 24, 1983 in Houston, TX to his father Delbert Wade Smith (Kay Heydman Smith) and his mother Vickie Lee Hester. He passed away on August 27, 2016. Cody was a fun loving family man who enjoyed life. He loved spending time with his friends and family. Cody joined the Marine Corps in 2001 and was a staff sergeant, who was assigned to 2nd Light Armored Recon Battalion. He completed two combat tours in Afghanistan, three combat tours in Iraq, and eleven deployment tours; and was promoted to his current rank in April 2012. His personal decorations include Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, Navy Unit Commendation, Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Korean Defense Service Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, Marine Corps Combat Instructor Ribbon, NATO Medal- ISAF Afghanistan and NATO Medal-NATO Operations and Activities in Relation to Libya.

He is survived by his father- Delbert Wade Smith (Kay Heydman Smith); mother- Vickie Lee Hester (Roy Hester); wife- Monica Smith; son- Jeremiah Clay Smith; daughter- Carrie Kathleen Smith; brothers- Patrick Conor Smith, and Brian and Kurt Hester; sisters- Toni Faye Wilson (Logan), Allison Rufin Reeves (Christopher), and Indy Marie-Therese Smith, grandmother- Virginia Williams; aunts- Betsy Russell and Janice Allet ; uncle- Mark Williams; nieces- Kierstin Haynes and Makenzie Collins; nephew- Brayden Akins and will be missed by many other uncles, aunts, and cousins.

He is preceded in death by his grandparents- Jay Brown Smith and Jewell Smith Taber and grandfather- Bobby Williams; and sister- Maggie Kathleen Rufin.

Family received friends on Saturday, September 3, 2016 from 12:00 to 2:15 at Crossville Memorial Funeral Home. A funeral service was also held at Crossville Memorial Funeral Home on Saturday beginning at 2:15 with Doyle Ashburn officiating. He was laid to rest in Webb Cemetery.
