Armour Verchal Mellard, Jr.

Armour Verchal Mellard, Jr., was born November 25, 1941 in Corpus Christi, Texas, and departed his earthly body July 8, 2017. He was the son of Armour Verchal and Marye Kritzer Mellard.

He attended Tuloso Midway High School in Corpus Christ where he excelled with sports in track and football. After graduating from high school in 1959, he went to Schreiner Institute at Kerville, Texas, studying engineering.
While in high school, he met the love of his life, Sharon. After college and years later, the two sweethearts reconnected and married in 1993.
His first career employment was in banking, then a partner with Clemtex in Corpus Christi, before pursuing a career in real estate in Corpus Christi and Nashville, as well as with Pioneer Realty and Berkshire Hathaway in Crossville, Tennessee.
He served in the Army National Guard from 1966 to 1972 during the Vietnam War, and earned the distinction of sharpshooter.
He was preceded in death by his mother, father, and brother, Cecil Martin Mellard, and stepson, Frank Randall Wallace.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Sharon Hull Mellard; stepdaughter, Stephanie Wallace Brasfield and husband Michael Paul; stepson, Paul Vincent Wallace, III and husband Mark VanSickle; sister, Geneva Kathryn Valdez and husband John; sister-in-law Mary Ellen Mellard; sister-in-law Susan Hull Bozeman and husband Gordon; four grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
He enjoyed antique cars, having restored a couple throughout the years. He was very spiritual and an admirable role model for his family. He was a passionate home renovator. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him.
A memorial service is scheduled for 3 p.m. Wednesday, July 12, at the Fairfield Glade United Methodist Church on Westchester Drive in Crossville, Tennessee, with Reverends Jay Archer and Moses Han, officiating.
Donations may be made to the Fairfield Glade Methodist Church in his memory.
