Nanetta Joyce (Ledbetter) Phipps

Nanetta Joyce (Ledbetter) Phipps of Mt. Juliet, TN, went to be with the Lord on June 19, 2019 at 4:10 a.m. after a long struggle with dementia. She was surrounded by her loving family as she breathed her last earthly breath.

Joyce was born in Overton County, TN December 9, 1930. She met her husband, Earl Davis Phipps in Crossville, TN while she was on a date with Earl’s best friend. They were married May 21, 1949. In May of 2019, they celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary. Soon after marrying they moved to Detroit, MI and then to Anderson, IN. In 1980 they moved to Moultrie, GA, where she worked as a machinist. After retiring Earl and Joyce returned to their hometown of Crossville, TN. One more move was in store to Mt. Juliet, TN to be closer to their children and grandchildren.

Joyce is survived by her husband, Earl Davis Phipps, son, Alan Dale Phipps, daughter-in-law, Janice Phipps, daughter, Sonia Dorer, son-in-law, Richard Dorer, Jr., grandchildren, Kellie Barron, Nikki Palmer, and Charlie Dorer, and several great grandchildren, brothers, Jesse Ledbetter and Julian Ledbetter.

Preceding her in death are sisters, Louise McCoy, Carolyn Lowhorn, and Helen Hoover, brother, Lyle Ledbetter, grandsons, Matthew Loyd and Caleb Dorer.

Joyce will be remembered as a loving, kind soul, who loved the Lord and family and friends.

Family will receive friends on Saturday, June 22, 2019 from 2:00 to 3:00 at Crossville Memorial Funeral Home. Funeral services for Joyce will also be held on Saturday following visitation with Mike McCoy officiating. She will be laid to rest in Woody Cemetery.

Alice Elaine Hagedorn

Alice “Elaine” Hagedorn, age 89, was born to the late Francis H. and Alice M. Willis on June 30, 1929 in Cincinnati, OH, and passed away on June 9, 2019 surrounded by her loving family at her home in Fairfield Glade, TN.   
She is survived by her devoted husband of 71 years, William H. Hagedorn, sons, Michael W. (Marsha) and William J. (Karen), daughter, Barbara Baugh (Ken), 6 grandchildren, and 9 great grandchildren.

Arnold Curtis Burgess

Arnold Curtis Burgess, age 93, was born on March 1, 1926 to John Simpson and Clara Jane Thomas Burgess in Crossville, TN and passed away June 5, 2019 in Crossville, TN. He was in the Army in his younger years and worked as a machinist for Ridge Tool. Arnold enjoyed fishing, going to yard sales and bluegrass festivals, eating and going to church.

He is survived by his children- Daniel Curtis Burgess (Debra) and Charlotte Goad; grandchildren- Tanya Moore (Fred), Adam Woolfrom, Kimberly Woolfrom, Johnathon Burgess, David Burgess (Chan), Kaitlyn Guzman (Seth), Lucas Burgess, Brent Wright, Michael Wright, and Mandy Morris; great grandchildren- Justin Woolfrom, Damarius Moore, Braiden Elliott, Alex Woolfrom, Sophia Guzman, Ruthie Guzman, and Gabriel Arnold Burgess; brothers- Aaron Burgess, James Burgess, and Eugene Burgess.

He is preceded in death by his parents, wife- Bernice Lou Houston Burgess, siblings- Lloyd Burgess, Lucille Selby, Eula Mae Burgess, and Wayne Burgess.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, June 9, 2019, at Crossville Memorial Funeral Home from 12 to 2 with the service to follow with Bro. Junior Pugh officiating. Burial will be in Akins Cemetery.

Jessie Eulenia Dean

Jessie Eulenia Dean, age 78, was born on May 15, 1941 to Dewey and Martha Beyer Smith in Crossville, TN. She passed away on June 1, 2019. She was a RN for over 20 years and a licensed pilot. Jessie enjoyed going on cruises and entertaining, hosting large parties at her house. Her grandchildren stole her heart and Marley was the “apple of her eye”.

She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Warren Dean; children, Bryan Dean (Tracy); son-in-law, Victor Whitney; grandchildren, Holly Pfaffly (Wayne) and Marley Dean; and siblings, Vancieneta Wisdom, John Lee Smith, Delmer Ray Smith, Linda Moffett, Vel Burgess, and Nowell Smith.

She is preceded in death by her parents; son, Mark Dean; daughter, Kim Whitney; and siblings, Robert Smith, Margaret Sherrill, Alfonso Smith, Frankie Smith, Vernon Lane Smith, and Ronnie Smith.

Family will receive friends on Thursday, June 6, 2019 from 11:00 to 1:00 at Crossville Memorial Funeral Home. Funeral services for Jessie will also be held on Thursday following visitation with Roland Smith and Billy Kemp officiating. She will be laid to rest in Lantana Cemetery.

Lewis Counsel Adams

Lewis Counsel Adams, 88, passed away peacefully on May 29, 2019, at his home in Crossville.

Mr. Adams was preceded in death by his parents, Calvin and Anna Adams, as well as siblings, Kenneth Adams, Orel Adams, Vola England, NIna Hall, Beatrice Lavender, and Dixie Lavender.  He leaves behind his wife of 62 years, A. Rosemary (Foust) Adams; his children, Marcella (Robert) Dodson, Mary (Gary) Barnes, Ronda (David) Burgess, Beverly (Bill) Sharpe, Marvin (Sheila) Adams, Henry (Lee Ann) Adams, and Timothy (Stephanie) Adams; his siblings, Donald Adams, Johnny Adams, Faye Howard, and Joydean Taylor; and 34 grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.

Born and raised in Deer Lodge, TN, Mr. Adams lived most of his adult life in Crossville.  At an early age, Mr. Adams joined the United States Air Force.  After returning home from his military service, he began to court Rosemary Foust.  After a challenging courtship and two years of dating, Lewis and Rosemary were married on March 30, 1957.   A few years later, he began working at Turner Day Woolworth Handle Corporation and retired from there in 1993 after 29 years of service.

Mr. Adams has been a member of the Crossville Church of the Nazarene for 54 years.  Faithfully attending services every time the doors were open, Mr. Adams went to great lengths to raise his family in the church and set a Godly example for his seven children and 34 grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.

All of his life, Mr. Adams truly enjoyed being outdoors.  He enjoyed chopping wood, working in his garden, and bird-watching and he was particularly fond of fishing.  A diverse man, he also enjoyed poetry and watching professional wrestling.  He could recite poetry and quote passages of scripture effortlessly.

Mr. Adams will be greatly missed by friends and family but they are at peace knowing he is in the presence of Jesus.  Funeral services will be held at Crossville Memorial Funeral Home on Saturday, June 1, 2019, at 10:00AM.  The family will receive friends and family for visitation Friday, May 31, 2019, from 5:00-8:00PM.

Kenneth Dale Houston

Kenneth Dale Houston, age 68, was born on August 6, 1950 to Edward Guy Houston and June Woody Houston in Cumberland County, TN. He passed away on Thursday, May 23, 2019. Kenneth was a member of The Old Fashioned Ind. Baptist Church and enjoyed fishing, gardening, and restoring old cars. He began work as a mechanic at an early age, just like his father and brother. Ken worked beside his brother, Ed Houston, for several years. Then, he opened up a shop at his home, where he worked with his son, Kenny, for 14 years. He also worked several years as a mechanic at Shadden Tire Company. After retiring, he continued to mechanic and went to work part-time for the Cumberland County Sanitation Department.

In his earlier days, he enjoyed racing at the dirt track at places including Atomic Speedway, Wartburg, Crossville, and Spring City. His race car was #55, and his brother, Ed, raced #56. On a sunny day, you would find Ken fishing with one of his many friends.

He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Anna Marie Moore Houston; children, Kenny Houston (Vickie) and Sharon Houston; grandchildren, Tiffani, Brittani, Kendra, Chris, Jordan, and Jared; great grandchildren, Hayden, Kadence, William, and Karolyn; sisters, Joann Houston, Brenda Houston, and Lisa Kirby; and brother, Tim Houston.

He is preceded in death by his parents; son, Ricky Lynn Houston; and brother, Clarence Edward Houston.

Family will receive friends on Sunday, May 26, 2019 from 12 to 2 at Crossville Memorial Funeral Home. Funeral services for Ken will also be held on Sunday following visitation with Woody Hurst and Wayne Matthews officiating. Ken will be laid to rest in Houston Family Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Jared Houston, Phil Cox, Kenny Wayne Moore, Justin Woody, Tony Hall, and Billy Norris, and honorary pallbearers are Troy Bridges, Tom Houston, Bill Houston, Stanley Walker, William Woody, and Tony Bowman.

Shirley Louise Seney

Shirley Louise Seney, age 97, was born on November 30, 1921 in Waverly, NY to Harold and Myrtle Forbes. She passed away on May 21, 2019.

She is survived by her son, William Seney IV (Jill); daughter-in-law, Beverly Seney; grandchildren, William, Dustin, Jessica, Braden, Mallory, Kathy, Tammy, Angie, Darlene, Kenny, and Peggy; great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousin.

She is preceded in death by her husband, William Seney III; parents, Harold and Myrtle Forbes; daughter, Maxine Wyatt; and sons, Marine Seney and Kenneth Stowell.

Family will receive friends on Friday, May 24, 2019 from 10:00 to 11:00 at Crossville Memorial Funeral Home. A memorial service for Shirley will also be held on Friday following visitation with Pastor Ralph Reagan officiating.

Kenny Lane Lewis Sr.

Kenny Lane Lewis Sr. went home to be with the Lord on May 20th, 2019 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center with his family by his side. He was born on September 2, 1959 to Paul “Wink” and Tilda Lewis of Crossville. He loved the Lord and enjoyed leading singing and worshipping with his church family at Vandever Baptist Church. He liked camping, fishing and hunting with family. Most of all, he loved his family and spending time with his four grandchildren. He was humble man with a servant’s heart and an inspiration and friend to all who met him.

He is survived by his parents, his wife- Sandy Rockwell Lewis, children- Kenny Lewis Jr. (Heather), Zachary Lewis, Kayla Harper (Josh), and Justin Rockwell (Gabby); grandchildren-Joseph, Jonathan, Zoey, and Mia; and siblings- Ricky Lewis, Gary Lewis, and Karen Lewis. He is preceded in death by his brothers- Edward Eugene Lewis and Michael Lewis.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 23, 2019, at Crossville First Freewill Baptist Church from 2 to 4 with service to follow. Mike McCoy and Gary Hargis will officiate and burial will be in Hales Chapel Cemetery.

Dianna Daugherty Hamby

Dianna Daugherty Hamby ,age 59, was born April 15, 1960 to Billy and Dorothy Tays in Crossville, Tennessee. She passed away May 19, 2019 in Knoxville, Tennessee. She was a nurse for over 30 years. The first part of her career was spent as one of the first UT flight nurses. The largest part of her career was spent as director of the CMC ER. Her final job was Vice President at Emergency Coverage Corporation/Team Health. She was truly passionate about nursing, taking care of people and teaching.

She is survived by her parents Billy and Dorothy Tays; husband David Hamby; children Bradley Daugherty (Kristin), Lindsey Becker (Josh) and David James Hamby; grandchildren Anna Bella Daugherty, Blakelee Kate Daugherty, Mason Bryce Daugherty, Riley Brooke Becker, David Aaron Hamby; siblings Bob Tays and Mary Qualls.
The family will receive friends at Crossville First United Methodist Church on Wednesday, May 22, 2019 from 2 to 6 PM with service to follow at 6 o’clock. Brother Louis Davis will be officiating along with some special statements from Gary Howard and Norma Hyder.

Walter Victor Threet

Walter Victor Threet, age 74, was born on August 1, 1944 to WIlliam (Will) Harrison Threet and Mary Jane Winningham Threet in Homestead in Cumberland County, TN and passed away on May 18, 2019 in Crossville, TN. He retired from General Telephone and Cumberland County Road Department, and was currently employed with Plateau Properties. He enjoyed hunting and was an avid dog trainer.

He is survived by his wife Naomi Gail Threet; sons Kenneth Harrison Threet (Lisa), and Keith Dewayne Threet (Cheryl); stepsons Heath and Alan Kerley; granddaughters Whitney Minter (Taqi), Karli Carter (Timothy), Bailey Crawley (Andrew), and Camie Threet (Daulton);  great grand children Irie, Zane, and Cree. He is preceded in death by his parents William and Mary Jane Threet, and siblings Benton, Clinton, Denton, Vinston, Juanita, and Christine Emery.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, May 22, 2019 from 12 to 2 pm at Crossville Memorial Funeral Home with service to follow. Bro. Mike Kerley will officiate and burial will be in Big Lick Cemetery.
