Amos Carson Duncan, Jr.

Amos Carson Duncan, Jr., 87 years old, passed away Friday morning, November 7, 2014, surrounded by family, at Cookeville Medical Center.  Amos was born March 1, 1927 in Forest City, NC to May Belle (Goddin) and Dr. Amos C. Duncan, Sr.  He served in the Navy during WWII and worked for International Harvester Corporation most of his career. After retirement, he started a financial consulting company, helping small businesses with growth and development. Amos was an elder at Raleigh Presbyterian Church in Memphis, TN and an active leader with the Boy Scouts for more than 15 years. In 1998, he moved from Memphis to Fairfield Glade, TN where he became a founding member of Westminster Presbyterian Church.  He also served as President of the community chess club.  Amos was happiest when cooking and entertaining with family and friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and two sisters.  He was also preceded by his first wife, Virginia Smith Duncan, and his second wife, Polly Smith Duncan.  Amos is survived by his older brother, Max C. Duncan of Savannah, GA, three daughters, Debbie (James) Cochran of Memphis, TN, Pam (James) Fields of Chattanooga, TN, Sherry (David) Moss of Signal Mountain, TN and son, Douglas (Tena) Duncan of Memphis, TN.  Additionally, Amos is survived by his four step-children, Sarah (Mark) Pfaffenroth of Fairfield Glade, TN, Marquis Smith of Lafayette, LA, Suzanne (Douglas) Reynolds of Tomball, TX and Nancy (Keith) Faust of Bartlett, TN, along with 14 grandchildren. A service celebrating Amos’ life will be held in Fairfield Glade on January 3, 2015, with details to be announced later. He will be buried with his family in Forest City, NC.  In lieu of flowers, donations would be appreciated to either Westminster Presbyterian Church, 114 Stonehenge Drive, Fairfield Glade, TN 38558 or Signal Mountain Christian School Capital Campaign, 808 Key Hulse, Signal Mountain, TN 37377.

  1. I believe Poppa D deserves some rest and I can’t think of a better place for him to get it than Heaven. We miss him here but he’s finally gone home.
