Josephine Hitchens

Josephine (Trumm) Hitchens went home to the Lord Friday January 4, 2013. Jo (as she liked to be called) was born December 15, 1925 in Lachey Ohio. She and her husband resided in Milbury Ohio until the late 1980’s. It was then that they retired to Lakeside Drive here in Fairfield Glade, Tennessee. She is survived by her husband of 65 years Charles Hitchens. Jo had one son Dean. He, his wife Debbie, & grand children Heather and Billy Hitchens reside in Wilmington, North Carolina. Granddaughter Jenny & her husband Micheal Detz along with 4 great grand children reside in Wesley Chapel Florida. She is also survived by a grandson and his wife, Daniel and Melissa Gottleber. Jo was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters Eva & Lena.

Jo became interested in Art when son Dean went off to college. What she thought originally would be a hobby has brought her much acclaim in the world of Art. Jo has won awards in Michigan and Ohio as well as numerous southern states. Her work with watercolors is breath taking. Jo was part of the driving force to build the Art Guild at Fairfield Glade. She was often an exhibitor and enjoyed sharing her passion with students she instructed at the Guild. There has never been a craft that Jo did not attempt and ultimately create perfection. Her stained glass design is visible to all since its installation at Christ Lutheran Church. Jo and her husband were one of the original 4 couples that ultimately conceived, designed and built Christ Lutheran Church which has grown at last count to 400 members. As a charter member of the church Jo was often found at choir practice and willing to participate or help where ever she was needed. Retirement was not in her vocabulary. I am certain that the Lord she loved has already recruited her to help paint the sky and sing in his heavenly choir. She was loved by many, will be greatly missed by all.

A celebration of Jo’s life will be held at Christ Lutheran Church, 481 Snead Drive, Fairfield Glade, TN at 1p.m. Tuesday January 8th, 2013.Donations to The Art Guild at Fairfield Glade in Jo’s name in lieu of flowers.

Arrangements were made by Crossville Memorial Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc.
