George E. Van Zandt

George E. Van Zandt passed away on September 14, 2019 in Fairfield Glade, Tennessee. He was born on April 23, 1923 in Brooklyn, New York and was preceded in death by his parents, Elizabeth L. and George F. Van Zandt, sisters, Edna McNally and Lillian Varnella, and son- and daughter-in-law, G. Peter and Virginia Van Zandt.

Mr. Van Zandt is survived by his wife of 75 years, Dorothy Anna Van Zandt, brother-in-law, Ferdinand Carnella, sisters-in-law, Zelma Otto and Margaret Durrance, daughters, Lynn Cavender (Dean) of Castle Rock, Colorado and Suzanne Petrey (Clay) of Nashville, Tennessee, grandchildren, Adam Van Zandt, Lucas Van Zandt, Amanda Quinn (Wayne), Jesse Cavender (Jocelyn), Michael Cavender, Cal Petrey (Julie Godfrey), and Beth Finch (Stan), great grandchildren, Foster Freudberg, Brady Quinn, Virginia Van Zandt, Reilly Van Zandt, Flynn Cavender, Lila and Nora Finch, and Jackson Petrey.

Mr. Van Zandt went to Brooklyn Tech High School, Brooklyn Polytechnic Institute, and worked for IBM for nearly 40 years, retiring in Endwell, New York in 1983. He served in the Army Air Corps during WW II. He was a member of Fairfield Glade Community Church. Mr. Van Zandt volunteered at Cumberland County Habitat for Humanity for 20 years and Broome County, New York Meals on Wheels for 19 years.

A celebration of life will held on Sunday, October 27, 2019 at 2:00 at Fairfield Glade Community Church (521 Snead Dr. Crossville, TN 38555). In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cumberland County Habitat for Humanity, 329 McLarty Ln., Crossville, TN 38555 or a charity of your choice.
